On September 15, 2025, Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu met with Minister of the Department of Environment Protection and Climate Change of Papua New Guinea, Simon Kilepa, in the capital city of Port Moresby. The two sides had in-depth discussions on domestic actions and bilateral cooperation in the fields of environment and climate, and jointly signed the implementation agreement on the cooperative construction of a South-South cooperation low-carbon demonstration area for climate change with integrated photovoltaic storage. In 2023, witnessed by the two prime ministers, the two sides signed a cooperation document on the construction of a South-South cooperation low-carbon demonstration area for climate change. The implementation agreement signed this time clearly outlines the cooperation model for China to assist in the construction of the integrated photovoltaic storage project in Papua New Guinea, further promoting the utilization of local solar energy resources and supporting Papua New Guinea in enhancing its capacity to address climate change.
