The Ministry of Water Resources has launched a Level IV emergency response for flood prevention in the areas of Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan and Shaanxi.
According to forecasts, from September 18th to 20th, there will be heavy to torrential rain in eastern Sichuan, northern and western Chongqing, southern Shaanxi, and northwestern Hubei, with localized heavy rain and short-term heavy rainfall. As a result, there will be a significant rise in water levels in the upstream Jialing River of the Yangtze River, as well as its tributaries Qu River, Han River in the middle reaches, and the Wei River in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. Some small and medium-sized rivers in the heavy rain area may experience floods exceeding warning levels. On the morning of September 18th, the Ministry of Water Resources conducted a comprehensive assessment of the national rainfall situation and arranged deployment for flood and rainstorm defense work. Based on the "Emergency Response Procedures for Flood and Drought Prevention by the Ministry of Water Resources", the Ministry of Water Resources initiated a level IV emergency response for flood prevention in Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Shaanxi provinces on September 18th at 11:00, and sent two working groups to Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces to guide defense work.
