Japan has begun importing tax-free rice in advance to stabilize rice prices.
Due to the high price of rice, the Japanese government has advanced the tax-free import of rice to the market this year in order to stabilize the price of rice. However, Japanese media believe that this move may not be effective. On September 16th, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation quoted the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as reporting that the Japanese government began delivering tax-free imported staple rice to rice wholesalers last week, about 3 months earlier than usual. According to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, despite the increase in the amount of imported rice, overall rice prices may further rise due to the already increased price of domestically produced rice.
