Ecuador's seven provinces enter a state of emergency to address large-scale protests.
Ecuadorian President Moreno issued a decree on the 16th, declaring a state of emergency in seven provinces including Pichincha Province, where the capital Quito is located, and Cotopaxi Province for 60 days to deal with large-scale protests caused by the rise in diesel prices. The decree stated that after the government canceled diesel subsidies, it sparked large-scale protests, with several provinces experiencing road blockades, tire burnings, and other events leading to "severe unrest" and disrupting public order. The government has decided to implement a 60-day state of emergency in seven provinces, including Caar Province, Imbabura Province, Pichincha Province, Azuay Province, Bolivar Province, Cotopaxi Province, and Santo Domingo de los Tschilas Province.
