"The world's largest ultra-high voltage direct current project, the "Tibet-Guangdong DC project", officially started construction today."
On September 16, the Southern Power Grid announced that the world's largest clean energy base direct current transmission project, the key project of inter-provincial and inter-regional transmission construction in the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" of China - the construction mobilization meeting of the 800 kV UHV DC transmission project from southeast Tibet to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held, marking the start of the construction of the world's strongest, most advanced, and largest flexible DC transmission project in terms of transmission capacity, technical level and investment scale. The total length of the project's transmission line is about 2681 kilometers, spanning four provinces and regions of Tibet, Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guangdong, with a transmission capacity of 10 million kilowatts. After the project is fully operational in 2029, the clean energy base in southeast Tibet can transmit over 43 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area each year, 100% of which is clean energy, replacing approximately 12 million tons of standard coal consumption and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 33 million tons. The total investment in the project is approximately 53.2 billion yuan, with supporting investments in the "water-wind-solar integration" power base exceeding 150 billion yuan.
