New drug for the treatment of ALS has arrived, first shot administered in Hunan.

On September 16th, it was learned from Xiangya Hospital of Central South University that 64-year-old Ma Chendong was injected with the targeted treatment drug Tofersen injection in the hospital. Tofersen injection is known as the "pioneer in targeted treatment of ALS" and was approved in China in September 2024. It is specifically used to treat adult ALS patients with the SOD1 gene mutation. This drug can precisely target the pathogenic "culprit" by reducing the accumulation of toxic SOD1 protein in neurons, effectively delaying disease progression. The first injection in Hunan brings good news to patients of this kind in our province.
