The Fifth World Conference on Biosphere Reserves will be held in Hangzhou.

Journalists learned from the press conference held by the State Council Information Office this afternoon that the 5th World Biosphere Reserve Congress will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang from September 22nd to 25th, 2025. This congress is the first to be held in Asia and has the widest participation of member countries of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with around 4,000 representatives from over 150 countries and regions around the world. The congress will release the "UNESCO Man and Biosphere Program and its World Biosphere Reserve Network Hangzhou Strategic Action Plan," establish a development blueprint for the next decade, and release the "Hangzhou Declaration," conveying China's and the world's determination to work together to address environmental challenges and build a global ecological community. Currently, China has 34 natural reserves approved by UNESCO as World Biosphere Reserves, ranking first in Asia.
