Ministry of Ecology and Environment Li Tianwei: Car manufacturers should reduce costs without compromising environmental performance and will strengthen emission recall management.
On September 13th, Li Tianwei, Director of the Atmospheric Environment Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, stated at the 2025 International Forum on the Development of the Chinese Automobile Industry that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently found in supervision and research that as industry costs increase, some car companies are using cheap three-way catalytic converters with precious metals, leading to increased emissions risks. Li Tianwei emphasized that car companies should not compromise environmental protection performance in order to reduce costs. This year, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will continue to conduct random checks on the consistency and complexity of new vehicle production, systematically analyze the environmental protection information of new vehicles, and work together with market supervision departments to strengthen emissions recall management.
