Macao Statistics and Census Bureau: Retail sales in Q1 amounted to MOP 17.58 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 15%.

According to the Zhitong Financial APP, on May 21st, data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau showed that the retail sales in the first quarter of this year amounted to 17.58 billion Macao patacas, a decrease of 15% compared to the same period last year. Compared with the same quarter of last year, sales of leather goods, cosmetics and hygiene products, department stores, and watches and jewelry fell by 24.2%, 22.3%, 18.8%, and 17.3% respectively, while sales of automobiles increased by 12%. The first-quarter sales volume index, excluding the impact of price factors, decreased by 17.8% on a year-on-year basis, with watches and jewelry (-29.9%), leather goods (-23.8%), cosmetics and hygiene products (-20.9%), and department stores (-16.4%) experiencing larger year-on-year declines, while automobile sales (+11.4%) recorded growth.
