Oil prices rise. Earlier reports suggested that Israel may attack Iran.
Oil prices rose more than 1% in early trading, following media reports suggesting that the US intelligence agencies have hinted at Israel preparing to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Brent crude rose 1.1% to $66.07 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate rose 1.2% to $62.75 per barrel. The news agency quoted unnamed officials as saying it is not clear whether Israeli leaders have made a final decision. "Such escalation not only risks Iran's supply but also most of the supplies in the wider region," analysts at the Dutch International Group said. "However, the market does not seem to fully believe these reports, at least for now." A potential attack by this OPEC+ member could significantly increase the geopolitical risk premium in the region, threatening progress in nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
