NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun outlined plans to allow customers to deploy competitor chips in data centers built on their technology. This move acknowledges the growth of internal semiconductor development among major customers such as Microsoft and Amazon. On Monday, Huang Renxun's nearly two-hour speech was largely dedicated to celebrating the work of local supply chain partners. But his most important announcement was a new NVLink Fusion system that allows for the construction of more customized artificial intelligence infrastructure by combining NVIDIA's high-speed links with semiconductors from other vendors for the first time. So far, NVIDIA has only provided complete computer systems built with its own components. This change provides data center customers with greater flexibility and allows for some competition while still maintaining NVIDIA's technological leadership. The NVLink Fusion product will provide customers with the option to use their own central processing units with NVIDIA's AI chips or pair NVIDIA chips with AI accelerators from other companies.
