Beijing has the highest number of 5G base stations in the country, with millions of people having access to them. By the end of 2027, comprehensive applications of 5G will be fully implemented.

It is reported that currently, the city has built over 140,000 5G base stations, and will achieve full-scale 5G application by the end of 2027, becoming a leading city in domestic 5G application benchmarks. Lu Jianwen, director of the city's communications management bureau, introduced that in terms of infrastructure construction, Beijing is leading the country in promoting 5G-A, the fifth-generation mobile communication evolution, and the demonstration of 10-gigabit optical network pilot projects. Beijing has the highest number of 5G base stations per capita in the country; in terms of application empowerment, Beijing was selected as a key city in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "Sailing" action plan for 5G applications, and its 5G application pilot projects are leading nationwide; in terms of business services, the total number of internet companies in Beijing ranks first in the country, internet accessibility performance is leading nationwide, and Beijing was the first in the country to introduce on-the-spot issuance and instant activation for foreign mobile phone cards for entry; in terms of high-level openness to the outside world, Beijing is one of the first four cities in the country to expand the opening of value-added telecommunications services to foreign countries, and leads the country in the number of foreign companies approved for pilot operation and the types of approved services.
