Nobel laureate in economics, Spencer: China and the United States are the two most important countries driving AI, and the gap is rapidly narrowing.
The 2025 Tsinghua Wudaokou Global Financial Forum opened in Shenzhen. In a video conference speech, 2001 Nobel laureate in Economics Michael Spence talked about artificial intelligence and mentioned that the gap between China and the US is rapidly closing. China and the US are the two most important countries in advancing AI, but other countries like the UK are also making progress, and accessibility is becoming more widespread. Spence believes that the most important thing is to ensure that AI is not limited to certain companies or industries, but to deploy it throughout the entire economy to significantly improve productivity.
