Report: Tariff concerns ferment, U.S. smartphone shipments surge by 30% in March.
Counterpoint Research stated on Wednesday that smartphone shipments in the United States surged by 30% in March, as manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung Electronics, Motorola, and others anticipated high import tariffs to be levied by the United States and rushed to bring more phones into the country. Media reports last month indicated that in March alone, Apple air-shipped $2 billion worth of iPhones from India to meet the surging demand. The surge in shipments reflects companies' efforts to avoid high tariffs, as price increases due to tariffs could erode profits or suppress demand for smartphones.
