The US Department of Justice launches a joint health bill investigation, the company claims to be unaware of this.
According to the Wall Street Journal report on Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating UnitedHealth Group's medical insurance billing practices, while the health insurance company stated that it was not aware of any new investigation underway. Sources familiar with the matter said that the civil fraud investigation launched in recent months is reviewing the company's practices of recording diagnoses that trigger additional payments to its medical insurance advantage plans. Over the past few months, the newspaper has published a series of reports detailing how UnitedHealth Group has profited from federal Medicare billing rules. UnitedHealth Group stated that the report contains incorrect information about its Medicare Advantage plans, but did not provide specific details. In a statement, UnitedHealth Group said, "The government regularly reviews all Medicare Advantage plans to ensure compliance, and our performance in these reviews has always been at the highest industry level."
