Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan: Holding a mainland settlement certificate is equivalent to obtaining mainland identity. China's Taiwan Affairs Office: The Democratic Progressive Party authorities obstruct and restrict cross-strait exchanges.
On May 14, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. A reporter asked: The Taiwan Affairs Office recently stated that holding a mainland settlement permit is equivalent to holding mainland household registration or passport, and also equivalent to obtaining mainland identity. The interpretation of the "Cross-Strait People Relations Act" is in the hands of the Taiwan Affairs Office, and will not be affected by different interpretations from the mainland. What is your comment on this?
The spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Chen Binhua, stated that the Taiwan Affairs Office's statement is arrogant and overbearing. It is obvious that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities do not care about the functions of the settlement permit, nor do they consider the practical interests and needs of Taiwanese compatriots. Making an issue out of the settlement permit is just an excuse, the real purpose is to restrict cross-strait exchanges, intimidate people on the island, and serve the "Taiwan independence" agenda.
We will continue to uphold the concept of "One Family on Both Sides of the Strait", strive to provide convenience for Taiwanese compatriots to travel to the mainland, provide assistance for the development of Taiwanese compatriots in the mainland, and continue to effectively protect the personal information security of Taiwanese compatriots holding permits in accordance with the law.
