Canadian Prime Minister Kenny: Canada can become an energy superpower.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Tuesday that he is willing to modify some regulations that may hinder energy projects and make use of the country's abundant natural resources. Carney reiterated his commitment to helping build a west-east oil pipeline, as long as a national consensus can be reached, and he is seeking to position Canada as an energy superpower, including but not limited to oil and gas production. Carney stated that he is a pragmatist and is willing to work with Alberta and other provinces to modify certain environmental policies, such as proposed carbon emission limits in the energy sector. Carney added that he will help push for the construction of a pipeline, but also noted that just building a pipeline alone will not help Canada fully realize its economic potential. "We can become an energy superpower, we have all the elements, including nuclear energy, hydroelectric power, and possibly carbon capture and storage, which will be a decisive factor in industrial competitiveness and productivity in many areas."
