State Council Taiwan Affairs Office: Maintain a positive attitude towards cross-strait power communication.
The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office holds a routine press conference. A reporter asked: Recently, there have been frequent power outages in many areas of Kaohsiung and Tainan, causing concerns among the public that there may be a power shortage crisis after the "nuclear power zero" on the island. Some public opinions in Taiwan questioned that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government's strong promotion of the "non-nuclear home" energy policy has led to frequent increases in electricity prices and more power outages. What is your comment on this? Chen Binhua, spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that in recent years, there have been multiple large-scale power outages in Taiwan, affecting the electricity use of millions. For example, in April 2024, there were 35 power outages in Taoyuan City alone. Ironically, despite the frequent power outages, electricity prices in Taiwan have increased five times in four years, nearly fifty percent. This has greatly harmed Taiwan's industry and the general public. The root cause of this issue is that the DPP government has violated economic laws, disregarded the well-being of the people, and has neither the will nor the ability to solve the economic and livelihood issues on the island. The structural difficulties faced by Taiwan's economic development can be solved through expanding economic cooperation across the strait and deepening integration and development across the strait. We hold a positive attitude towards cross-strait power supply.
