The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: Achieving complete reunification of the motherland is the general trend, the right thing to do, and the common aspiration of the people.
The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office held a routine press conference. A reporter asked: On May 7th, President Xi Jinping published a signed article in Russian media during his state visit to Russia and attendance at the 80th anniversary celebration of the victory of the Great Patriotic War, emphasizing that "no matter how the situation changes on the island of Taiwan, no matter how external forces stir up trouble, the historical trend of China's reunification is unstoppable", attracting high attention from domestic and foreign public opinion including Taiwan. Under the current situation of cross-strait relations, how should we deeply understand and implement it? Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that President Xi Jinping's signed article in Russian media solemnly declared that the historical trend of national reunification is unstoppable, demonstrating our strategic determination and firm will, and releasing a clear political signal. We will adhere to the one-China principle and the "1992 Consensus", resolutely and forcefully combat "Taiwan independence" provocations, promote cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, deepen cross-strait integration and development, resolutely oppose external interference, and widely unite Taiwan compatriots to jointly promote the development of cross-strait relations and the process of national reunification, and strive to shape the inevitable trend of national reunification. Taiwan is China's sacred territory. Resolving the Taiwan issue and achieving complete reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration of Chinese at home and abroad, and the trend, righteousness, and popular sentiment. Although the current Democratic Progressive Party authorities persist in their stubborn "Taiwan independence" separatist stance, intensify collusion with external forces and continue to provoke "independence", leading to tension in cross-strait relations and undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, it cannot change the objective fact that both sides of the strait belong to one country and one nation, nor the universal consensus and basic pattern of the international community's adherence to the one-China principle, and cannot stop the historical trend of the motherland's ultimate reunification. It is hoped that the broad masses of Taiwan compatriots will follow the historical trend, join hands with compatriots on the mainland to oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and foreign interference, and make unremitting efforts to achieve national reunification and rejuvenation.
