"May 20th" is approaching, and the Mainland Affairs Council once again raises the "threatening big stick" against Taiwanese artists.
Taiwanese leader Lai Ching-te will celebrate his one-year anniversary in office on May 20, and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has once again issued threats to artists in Taiwan. According to Taiwan's China Times Electronic News report, as May 20 approaches, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council Chairman Qiu Chui-cheng was asked on the 12th whether he was worried about Taiwan artists cooperating with mainland China in propaganda, which could involve their political statements and reposting of mainland media information on social media. He responded that if these artists developing in mainland China choose to make political statements at specific times that appear to "diminish" or harm Taiwan's "sovereignty," and if their actions violate the "Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area," which states that "no one shall cooperate with the party, government, or military of mainland China without government permission," necessary administrative measures will be taken in conjunction with the relevant authorities in Taiwan's Ministry of Culture. The report mentioned that Lai Ching-te stated in his inauguration speech last year that he would defend "Taiwan's position," and many Taiwan artists subsequently reposted official articles from CCTV News rejecting Taiwan independence, including Hou Pei-cen, Ouyang Nana, Angela Chang, Rainie Yang, and others, causing attention in Taiwan.
