General Motors and LG Energy Solution announced on Tuesday that they plan to begin mass-producing lower-cost batteries for future electric vehicles in a factory in the United States starting in 2028. General Motors stated that these batteries will be cheaper than the current high-nickel batteries but will still meet customers' demands for range in future electric trucks and full-size SUVs. The batteries will utilize a rich lithium manganese (LMR) chemical composition with higher safety, higher energy density, and lower costs.
