General Motors and LG Energy Solution announced on Tuesday that they plan to start commercial production of lower-cost batteries for future electric vehicles in the United States from 2028. General Motors stated that these batteries, which will be used in future electric trucks and full-size SUVs, will be cheaper than the nickel-rich batteries currently in use, while still meeting customer demand for range. These batteries will utilize a rich lithium manganese chemical composition, providing higher safety, energy density, and lower cost.
