Bank of England policymakers suggested that last week's interest rate cut was a balanced outcome.
Mitsubishi UFJ analyst Derek Halpenny said in a report that the speeches by Bank of England policymakers Green and Lomabardi on Monday indicated that the decision to cut interest rates by 25 basis points last week was a finely balanced outcome. Both of them stated that their considerations on whether to cut interest rates were very balanced. This decision was made before the easing of tensions between the UK and the US, as well as the US and China. "If the Monetary Policy Committee meeting had been postponed for a week, it is likely that there would have been a vote to keep the key policy rate unchanged." Last week, the Bank of England supported the interest rate cut by a vote of 5 to 4, with two members leaning towards keeping the rate unchanged and two members supporting a 50 basis point cut.
