Both of them stated that their considerations on whether to cut rates were very balanced. This decision was made before the easing of tensions between the US and China and the UK-US trade agreement. "If the Monetary Policy Committee meeting was postponed by a week, they would likely have voted to keep the key policy rate unchanged." The Bank of England last week voted 5-4 in favor of cutting rates by 25 basis points, with two members leaning towards keeping rates unchanged and two members supporting a 50 basis point cut.
