Sharp increase in defense budget may lead to breaking of EU deficit ceiling? New German finance minister leaves suspense.
On the 12th local time, the Eurozone finance ministers met in Brussels. Germany's newly appointed finance minister, Klinbel, stated that whether Germany will break the EU's fiscal threshold to increase defense spending "will be revealed in the coming weeks", attracting attention from all sides. Klinbel stated that Germany's massive investments in defense and infrastructure could lead to its annual fiscal deficit exceeding the EU's fiscal threshold this year, which is 3% of the GDP. Klinbel added that Germany is currently preparing the budget for 2025 and hopes to complete the budget draft in June, at which point it will be revealed whether Germany's fiscal budget exceeds the EU's prescribed deficit limit.
