Former White House advisor said receiving private planes from foreign countries may be unconstitutional
On the evening of May 11th, local time, President Trump of the United States confirmed through social media that "the US Department of Defense is receiving a Boeing 747 aircraft for free to temporarily replace the aging 'Air Force One' presidential plane that has been in service for 40 years." Earlier that day, American media reported that this Boeing 747-8 aircraft, valued at over $400 million and gifted by the Qatari royal family, may be "the most expensive gift given to American leaders." However, a former White House legal advisor stated in an interview that it is only legal for Trump to accept a foreign gifted plane with the approval of Congress. Some netizens also questioned whether the foreign gifted plane can meet the safety standards of the US presidential plane, and called Boeing, which has yet to deliver the new "Air Force One" order on time, "shameful."
