Gansu: Strive to effectively curb the spread of rural areas' high bride prices, social comparisons, extravagant weddings and other backward customs by the end of 2025.

The General Office of the Gansu Provincial Committee and the General Office of the Provincial Government recently issued the "Comprehensive Plan for Promoting the Comprehensive Governance of High Bridal Gifts in Rural Areas of Gansu Province." The plan aims to strive for comprehensive implementation of the advocated standards for bridal gifts in rural areas by the end of 2025, effectively curb the trend of high bridal gifts, interpersonal comparison, and extravagant wedding customs, and significantly reduce the burden of marriage for rural residents. By the end of 2026, the rural atmosphere will significantly improve, traditional wedding customs will notably decrease, the amount of bridal gifts will gradually decrease, and civilized practices such as new wedding ceremonies will become more prominent. Through sustained efforts and consolidation, significant reduction of bridal gifts in rural areas will be achieved, with the concepts of "zero bridal gifts" and "low bridal gifts" being widely accepted by the rural population, and rural areas revitalizing with a new civilized atmosphere.
