According to a report on the website of the Wall Street Journal on May 6, the F-35 fighter jet is a symbol of the military and technological strength of the United States, yet it relies on over 80 components provided by a relatively unknown company based in the quiet suburbs of Denmark's Ningbo City. Overall, this jet produced by Lockheed Martin has over 1900 suppliers, located in approximately a dozen countries, providing various components from tiny microchips to ejection seats. The vast supply chain of the F-35 fighter jet indicates that even the US defense industry could face challenges from the trade war initiated by the Trump administration. The US defense industry exports billions of dollars worth of weapons, but imports very few. Tariffs will make many components and raw materials for modern weapons even more expensive. Defense companies are currently working to address potential impacts, lobbying the White House for exemptions like other industries. The Pentagon may ultimately have to bear most of the costs.
