date
10/05/2025
Bulgarian President Radev stated on the 9th that he has proposed to the National Assembly to hold a referendum on whether the country should join the eurozone in 2026. Radev said in a speech to the Bulgarian National Assembly on that day that Bulgaria currently faces issues such as inflation, lack of trust in the government by the people, and the government's lack of specific actions to protect people's purchasing power and economic competitiveness. Bulgarian society has not yet reached a consensus on the readiness and specific date for adopting the euro. The introduction of the euro should be achieved under a convincing national consensus. According to the Bulgarian Constitution, after the National Assembly passes a motion regarding holding a referendum, the president can set the date for the referendum.
