Beth Hammack, President of the Cleveland Federal Reserve, said in an interview on Friday that more time is needed to observe the economic response to tariffs and other policy measures before the Federal Reserve takes action. "I am ready to act when there is clear, convincing evidence, but... given the broad scope of policies being discussed and implemented, we really need to understand what kind of impact they will have, which may take more time," she said during a monetary policy conference at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. She added that it is too early to discuss any response measures, "everything is still rapidly changing, we need to wait and see how the data performs".
