A source familiar with the matter said that the Republican Party is considering raising the current 1.4% donation tax to 14% to 21%. Currently, donations to private schools are taxed, affecting not only many of the wealthiest universities such as Harvard and Yale, but also smaller elite colleges like Amherst College and Williams College. This move is seen as Republicans ensuring that universities use donation funds for student education, rather than for initiatives that conservative factions oppose, such as diversity and inclusion initiatives.
