The Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) 100 index in London closed at 8,531.61 points on the 8th, down 27.72 points from the previous trading day, a decrease of 0.32%. The three major stock indexes in Europe had mixed performances that day. In terms of individual stocks, engineering stocks led the gains among the constituent stocks of the London Stock Market that day. The top five stocks in terms of increase were: investment company Melrose Industries with a 5.21% increase in stock price, engineering company Amey Group with a 5.13% increase, engineering company Weir Group with a 4.07% increase, Rolls-Royce Holdings with a 3.66% increase, and catering and hotel group Whitbread with a 3.03% increase. On the other hand, service stocks led the declines among the constituent stocks of the London Stock Market that day. The top five stocks in terms of decrease were: telecom operator Airtel Africa with an 8.40% decrease in stock price, British natural gas supplier Centrica Group with a 7.57% decrease, pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca with a 3.52% decrease, Seven Trent water utility company with a 3.15% decrease, and commercial property company Land Securities Group with a 2.39% decrease.
