The American Chamber of Commerce hopes that the Vietnam-US trade negotiations will eliminate non-tariff barriers.
The American Chamber of Commerce stated in a document sent to the US Trade Representative on Wednesday that trade negotiations between the Trump administration and Vietnam should focus on eliminating the burdensome regulations that hinder US exports to the Southeast Asian country. The document, entitled "Trade, Investment, and Market Access Barriers in Vietnam," lists a series of domestic policies that the organization believes do not comply with international standards, as well as behaviors by government officials that hinder US imports. Examples include "onerous" product safety requirements, lengthy medical device registration procedures, retail license obligations that domestic companies in Vietnam do not have, and misuse of customs regulations.
