Source: U.S. and Russia are exploring ways to resume natural gas supply to Europe.
Eight knowledgeable sources stated that amidst the chilling winter of the European-Russian energy relationship, officials from Washington and Moscow have discussed American assistance in restoring Russia's natural gas sales to Europe. Following the outbreak of the 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict, Europe significantly reduced its import of Russian natural gas, leading to a $70 billion loss for Russian gas exporter Gazprom the following year. Trump's efforts to promote peace between Russia and Ukraine have increased the potential for a thaw in gas relations. Sources claim that allowing Moscow to regain influence in the European Union gas market could help solidify the peace agreement reached with Russian President Putin. While most European countries are seeking alternative suppliers, some buyers have remained, and industry officials suggest that more buyers may return once a peace agreement is reached.
