Eight knowledgeable sources stated that amidst the chilling winter of the European-Russian energy relationship, officials from Washington and Moscow have discussed American assistance in restoring Russia's natural gas sales to Europe. Following the outbreak of the 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict, Europe significantly reduced its import of Russian natural gas, leading to a $70 billion loss for Russian gas exporter Gazprom the following year. Trump's efforts to promote peace between Russia and Ukraine have increased the potential for a thaw in gas relations.
