The ruling party National People's Power Party of Sri Lanka won in the nationwide local elections.
The Sri Lankan Election Commission released the national local election statistics on the 7th, stating that the ruling party led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Sri Lanka People's Front, won the majority of seats in 266 out of 339 local administrative bodies nationwide. According to the data released by the Election Commission, the Sri Lanka People's Front won 3927 out of 8287 local seats with a vote share of over 43%. The main opposition party, the United National People's Power Party, ranked second with 1767 seats. The third-ranking party, the People's Liberation Front, won 742 seats.
