Guangzhou initiates level IV emergency response to meteorological disasters, yellow warning for heavy rain and strong winds in multiple areas takes effect.
On May 6, it was learned from the Guangzhou Meteorological Department that according to the monitoring of the municipal meteorological station, Guangzhou has reached the standard for initiating Level IV emergency response to meteorological disasters. The Guangzhou Meteorological Disaster Emergency Command decided to initiate Level IV emergency response to meteorological disasters in Guangzhou starting from 15:19 on the 6th. Due to the influence of a strong thunderstorm cloud group moving towards Foshan, it is expected that in the next 3 hours, there will be moderate to heavy thunderstorms in Yuexiu District and Tianhe District of Guangzhou, accompanied by gusts of 8 to 9 levels, strong lightning, and short-term heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly rainfall intensity of 30 to 40 millimeters. The yellow warning signal for thunderstorms and strong winds in Yuexiu District and Tianhe District of Guangzhou became effective from 15:03 on the 6th. Currently, yellow warnings for thunderstorms and strong winds are in effect in Yuexiu, Haizhu, Liwan, Tianhe, Baiyun, Huadu, Panyu, Nansha, Zengcheng, and other districts of Guangzhou. The meteorological department reminds citizens to pay attention to safety, seek refuge in safe indoor locations with lightning protection measures, and be cautious of the possibility of short-term strong winds and localized hail.
