The U.S. Department of Justice has stated that Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., should be forced to sell two businesses that help websites buy and sell online advertising, after a judge ruled that Google illegally monopolized the relevant markets. The agency said in court filings submitted on Monday night that the company should be required to immediately sell its advertising exchange platform AdX and then "gradually" divest the service that helps websites sell display ads. Google has not immediately commented on this. In its own filings submitted on Monday night, Google proposed that its advertising exchange platform seamlessly cooperate with competitors' technology and install monitoring to ensure compliance with regulations over the next three years. The company stated that its proposal would alleviate any alleged harm, and that divestiture, as proposed by the government, is not a feasible remedy in such cases.
