Anthropic said it plans to contribute 5% of the company's shares to a new fund. The AI company said the fund will support its various philanthropic donations aimed at addressing public-interest issues, including mitigating AI's impact on the job market. In a statement on Sunday, the company said: subject to shareholder approval, Anthropic today committed to allocating 5% of its shares. For every 50% increase in the company's valuation relative to an established benchmark, an additional 2% of shares may be allocated at the board's discretion. The statement said the fund will enable the company to pursue its mission in "new ways," such as using some of the funds to study "shocks to the labor market." The company said that, once approved, the Anthropic Public Interest Fund will be established as a wholly owned limited liability company, not a nonprofit organization, and the fund's size will grow as the company grows. The statement specified that the Anthropic equity held by the LLC may not be used for lobbying activities or political donations, whether in the United States or overseas.
