According to foreign media reports, the U.S. September CPI report showed that core price increases exceeded expectations, leaving the possibility of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October still on the table. After the CPI inflation data was released, S&P 500 index futures turned lower, while U.S. Treasury yields rose sharply. Following the CPI inflation report, S&P 500 index futures fell 0.3%, reversing an earlier gain of 0.2%. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose 10 basis points to 5.318%. GlobalFoundries plans to build two new chip factories with up to $21 billion in funding support from the Japanese government. As part of the related agreement, the U.S. government will also acquire about a 4% stake in the company.
