According to foreign media reports, the U.S. September CPI report showed that core price increases exceeded expectations, leaving the possibility of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October still on the table. After the CPI inflation data was released, S&P 500 index futures turned lower, while U.S. Treasury yields rose sharply. Following the CPI inflation report, S&P 500 index futures fell 0.3%, reversing an earlier gain of 0.2%. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose 10 basis points to 5.318%. Before the CPI data was released, it was 5.19%, and on Tuesday it was 5.22%. The two-year U.S. Treasury yield, which is more closely tied to Federal Reserve policy, surged 13 basis points to 4.92%. Currently, the market expects an increased probability that the Federal Reserve will raise rates by 25 basis points in October. However, if the decision on whether to raise rates at that time is too close to call, the Federal Reserve may lean toward holding off on a rate hike before the U.S. election day.
