It is reported that Japan's Honda Motor and Taisei Corporation announced on the 5th that they have jointly developed a basic technology that can wirelessly transmit electricity to moving pure electric vehicles (EVs) for charging. If this technology is applied, it will reduce the situations where vehicles need to stop for charging and improve the convenience of pure electric vehicles. The two sides expect to conduct demonstration tests on the Tateyama Expressway in Chiba Prefecture after fiscal year 2027. The technology developed this time adopts a method of supplying power to moving EVs from coils laid on the ground. Honda R&D has used its own technology to develop a "power supply unit" that transmits electricity from the road to EVs. Compared with ordinary systems, this technology can simplify wiring and reduce the burial range. Taisei Corporation is investigating the construction method on roads and power supply capacity of the system developed by Honda R&D. According to estimates, within the brief time a vehicle travels over the power supply unit at a speed of about 80 kilometers per hour, it is expected to instantly receive a maximum power supply of 150 kilowatts.
