The Pentagon has chosen Boeing to build the United States' next-generation fighter jet.

The Pentagon announced on Tuesday that Boeing Co. has won the competition against Northrop Grumman Corp. to build the Navy's next-generation top fighter jet, the stealthy and still-classified F/A-XX. The contract, valued at more than $20 billion, is the second major fighter jet program Boeing has won in a few years. The company beat Lockheed Martin Corp. in 2025 to become the producer of the Air Force's stealthy F-47 fighter jet. In after-hours trading in New York, Boeing shares rose 2.5%, while Northrop shares fell 4.1%.
