According to a report by the UK Financial Times, South Korea's deputy prime minister recently stated: "AI should be regarded as basic infrastructure like 'electricity,' and every South Korean citizen should be able to use it affordably, without worrying about cost." Last year, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said that this technology had brought South Korea to "a major historical turning point," and asked: "Do we continue to act as followers who may be left behind, or do we become leaders who can seize unlimited opportunities?" To answer this question, the government last month selected domestic telecom companies SK Telecom and KT, as well as internet service provider Kakao, to lead the implementation of the "AI for All" plan, aimed at allowing South Korea's 51.6 million people to use ChatGPT-like services and personal AI assistants for free. South Korea's deputy prime minister made it clear on social media that despite concerns that the technology could spiral out of control and bring catastrophic consequences, South Korea remains determined to become "a true top-three AI power."
