Shanghai Shipping Exchange: Freight rates for the three major ship types mixed, Far East rental index edges up

According to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, this week, freight rates in the three major vessel segments of the international dry bulk shipping market showed mixed movements, while the Far East dry bulk rental index rose slightly. By vessel type, freight rates in the Capesize market rose slightly. This week, cargo volume in the Pacific market was fair, FFA forward contracts first rose and then fell, and freight rates stabilized after declining; demand on long-haul ore routes remained stable and improving, capacity supply was relatively tight, and freight rates rose steadily. In the Panamax market, coal cargo volume decreased, grain transportation demand operated steadily, the market trading atmosphere weakened, and daily rents fluctuated slightly. In the Supramax market, cargo volume for domestic steel exports and Philippine nickel ore was relatively good, coal cargo from Indonesia to India maintained a sound shipment trend, and daily rents continued to rise. On September 23, the Far East dry bulk rental index released by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange was 2,566.46 points, up 1.4% from the previous period.
