MLCC leader signals capacity expansion! Executive reveals: Bullish on AI demand, this evaluation is "more bold"

MLCC leader Murata plans to increase production capacity for multilayer ceramic capacitors, which are indispensable for AI servers, by 20% in fiscal 2028 compared with the current level. Murata Vice President Masanori Minamide said in an interview: "Looking ahead to the next 3 to 5 years, the company is studying and evaluating a capacity expansion plan that includes buildings. I believe this evaluation will be bolder than before. The final plan has not yet been finalized internally, but it has already entered an in-depth demonstration stage. Building large new plants at domestic and overseas factories is one of the options." He expects that MLCC demand growth for AI applications will continue at least until 2028. In the medium to long term, the market will expand from AI data centers as infrastructure to edge AI devices.
