An accident occurred at a coal mine in central Colombia, resulting in 6 deaths.
On August 14 local time, an accident occurred at a coal mine in Cucunub, Cundinamarca Province, central Colombia, resulting in the deaths of all six trapped miners. Cundinamarca Governor Rey stated on social media that the incident took place at the local "Future No. 1" mine. After several hours of search and rescue, rescuers found the six trapped individuals, but they showed no signs of life. Rey indicated that the mine had recently undergone an inspection by the Colombian National Mining Agency and was ordered to suspend operations due to safety issues that required rectification. Authorities will investigate why the mine continued to conduct suspected extraction operations during the suspension period.
