Panama Establishes Joint Command Center for Security in Canal-Specific Areas

On the 5th, the Panamanian government announced the establishment of a Joint Command Center for the Security of the Panama Canal Specific Area, responsible for coordinating security assurance efforts in that area. On the same day, the Panamanian Ministry of Public Security issued an administrative resolution stating that the Joint Command Center would be established to implement the framework agreement between the Ministry of Public Security and the Panama Canal Authority regarding the monitoring, security, and protective services in the Canal specific area. The resolution notes that the Panama Canal is an important piece of infrastructure with national and international strategic significance, and its basin and surrounding areas face various risks and challenges, including climate change, environmental issues, cybersecurity, and transnational crime. The establishment of the Joint Command Center aims to enhance the protection of the Canal and related critical infrastructure, ensuring the Canal's continuous and safe operation.
