Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Baghaei stated on the 5th that as the two neighboring countries of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran and Oman have been negotiating the safety navigation routes for commercial vessels over the past two months, with related technical, legal, security, and environmental issues currently under review by the relevant Iranian authorities. Baghaei noted that the negotiations have been "professional and fruitful," and the geographical coordinates of the proposed new routes have been agreed upon. If there are no third-party interferences, a joint statement from the two countries is currently in the final approval and drafting stage. However, Baghaei emphasized that reaching an agreement between Iran and Oman does not mean that safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz will be restored. He stated that the closure of the Strait is due to military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran and the ensuing regional security situation, and that "threatening actions" such as the maritime blockade imposed by the U.S. on Iran still exist, consequently the security situation in the Strait has not fundamentally improved.
