The Kumamoto factories of companies such as TSMC, Sony, and Renesas Electronics have resumed operations.
Renesas Electronics' Kumamoto Kawashiri Factory has resumed phased operations ahead of schedule. The company still plans to restore pre-earthquake production capacity within approximately three weeks after the resumption. Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation stated at the end of last month that the Kumamoto Technology Center, which was halted due to the Kumamoto earthquake on July 28, has completed safety inspections and repairs, and is set to resume operations in phases starting August 4, with full restoration to pre-earthquake capacity expected by mid-August. Earlier reports on the 4th indicated that TSMC's Kumamoto No. 1 factory has completed inspections and adjustments after the earthquake, and is now operating normally. Reports confirmed that the safety of the factory building has been verified, though the earthquake caused delays in equipment adjustments. Two factories of Tokyo Electron located in Kumamoto Prefecture had also resumed operations since August 3.
