Major Wildfire in Attica, Greece May Have Been Caused by Electricity Transmission Line Sparks

The Greek fire department stated on the 2nd that the wildfires in the Attica region, where the capital Athens is located, were clearly ignited by sparks from a faulty transmission line. The faulty transmission line was transmitting electricity from a private wind power facility to the main grid. Police have arrested two suspects, namely the engineer responsible for the design and supervision of the power project and a contractor involved in the construction of the transmission network, who are facing felony arson charges. Authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for the head of the wind power company.
